Sevastopol Summer Read 2018
Posted on 05/31/2018

Learning and literacy don’t end on the last day of school, and Sevastopol is embracing this truth with its high school summer read. This year’s featured books include Turtles All the Way Down, a new novel by John Green. In the book, sixteen-year-old Aza works with her friend Daisy to find Aza’s boyfriend’s billionaire father, all the while struggling through the coil of her own thoughts. In the other featured title, Dear Martin, by Nic Stone, Justyce is Ivy-league bound and finds himself in handcuffs. He looks to the teachings of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. to navigate the injustice he’s experienced, only to find himself at the mercy of the media.

Besides these new titles, students, including incoming freshmen, can choose from past reads like Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand, Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, Night by Elie Wiesel, The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd, The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls, and The Fault in Our Stars by John Green. They can keep reading throughout the summer with one or all of these books. In the fall, students will have the opportunity to share their reading in book club-style discussions.

Parents, please share these great books with your students! Read when they have finished; if you or students would like to borrow books, please contact Carrie Mulrain at cmulrain@sevastopol.k12.wi.us or Heather Spetz at hspetz@sevastopolschool.com (920) 559-7208.
