The School District of Sevastopol will once again be sponsoring a variety of programs designed to bring the community together to enjoy exercise classes, creative time, a cooking course, and to learn more about current topics of interest.

“We welcome our neighbors into our great school to learn something new or spend time with friends or staff.  Our school has always been a community center for activities and learning,” said Melissa Marggraf, Director of Pupil Services.

Community programs originated at Sevastopol during the winter months nearly a decade ago.  Past participants have shared ideas for courses offerings, and based on this feedback, facilitators work with staff instructors and community partners to provide a great menu of opportunities to participate.

Returning this year are arts and craft class favorites that include quilting, needle felting, and clay forms.  Exercise classes will include both a morning yoga and afternoon HITT yoga session along with Core n’ More and Strong Zumba. Educational courses like internet security and the “Brain Game” will be led by community partners.

In addition, Sevastopol’s English Language Learner Teacher Dina Saunders plans to offer a course to help Spanish-speaking parents use Power School and other computer applications to keep informed about their child’s grades and school notifications.

“We want everyone to feel comfortable with resources available to them here at school so that they become more active partners with the school community,” Saunders said. “We hope this class will open doors to additional questions and conversations with our Spanish-speaking families.”

A complete course brochure with details about dates, times and programming is now available.  Register online  or pick up a Community Programs brochure at school or the Sevastopol Town Hall.  Most classes will be offered mid-January through March 2020.
